New boiler installation – questions to ask your plumber

A new boiler installation is quite a costly undertaking. Because of that, it’s important to make sure that you have a quality job done, and this refers both to the boiler itself and the people fitting it. So, don’t be tempted to scrimp. By all means, get several quotes to compare, but don’t necessarily go for the cheapest just to penny pinch. It’s simply not worth it.

Most people already know the type of boiler they want, and they will also have a particular brand in mind too. If you are not sure, you can always invite a plumber to visit your property to give you some advice. If you happen to live in South London, this is all part of the new boiler installation package that we offer our clients here at CW Services Plumbing and Heating Ltd.

Choosing a plumber for your new boiler installation

Choosing the right boiler for your home or business premises can be quite tricky because there are many things to take into consideration. As mentioned above, we here at CW Services are perfectly happy to give you the benefit of our professional experience, but if you would rather have independent advice, why not check out Which? They are very well known and highly respected.

But when it comes down to choosing the installation company, that can be a little more difficult. The easiest way to begin is to carry out a local search online or skim through your local trade directory. This will give you a wide range of names to choose from. The difficulty though is to sort the wheat from the chaff. It is important to identify and avoid any “cowboys” you come across.

If you decide your new boiler installation will be gas-fired, the single most important thing that follows is that the installer you choose must be Gas Safe registered. This is a must. But don’t just believe what you read or what you are told. Check it out. You can do that quite simply by going to the Gas Safe website and entering the details of who it is you want to verify.

The other thing you should do is carry out a little research into any qualifications or approvals that the group you are comparing are alleged to hold. As with the Gas Safe register, you should physically verify that any supposed registration is current. Here at CW Services, we are CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing Heating Engineering) approved, and you can check this out at the CIPHE website.

Some technical question to ask about your new boiler installation

Most people have little or no plumbing knowledge, so knowing the questions you ought to be asking can be a bit tricky. To help you out with this, here is a list of the most appropriate queries you can pose.

  • Is the existing gas pipe the correct size?

  • Where should the condense waste pipe be fitted?

  • What are the benefits of having a magnetic filter installed?

  • Is a combi-boiler appropriate for my premises?

  • Should I have individual thermostats fitted?

  • Is it worth installing smart thermostats like Nest?

If any of these questions or subjects are unfamiliar to you, it may be a good idea to do a little bit of research on the web beforehand.

Ask about Power Flushing

If you are going to have a new boiler installation, you don’t want it driving a dirty, heating system. It will still be trying to pump hot water through pipes and radiators that are full of silt and sludge. Ask your selected plumbers whether they can give your system a power flush so you can get your new boiler off to the very best start.

Power Flushing is something that we can and would do here at CW Services Plumbing and Heating prior to a new boiler installation. To find out more or to book an appointment why not call us today on 020 7733 6812 or 07949 095 184?
