Noisy boiler? – Find a good London boiler repair service
If you have an efficient boiler that is well maintained, it shouldn’t be making any noise. If it is, it is probably an indication that something is wrong. It may well mean that you need to find a plumber like CW Services Plumbing and Heating LTD who offer a London boiler repair service
A noisy boiler may carry on working for a while. But in all likelihood, it is a sign that it is going to fail at some point in the not too distant future. The types of noises that boilers make vary quite a lot. To help, we are going to describe the most common ones and give you an indication of what could be causing them.
Banging and “clunking” noises
When you hear banging and clunking noises coming out of your boiler, it is an indication that there is a build-up of limestone on the boilers heat exchanger. The noises are referred to as “kettling” noises in the plumbing trade, and you need to take notice of them.
These noises occur because the build-up of limestone (sometimes referred to as fur) interferes with the flow of water. If not addressed and it is allowed to accumulate over time, it will create a blockage which causes the water to boil, steam and expand.
Modern boilers today are fitted with what are known as pressure relief valves. If steam is building up inside, the relief valve will let it out and thus stop the boiler from exploding. In the meantime, however, the efficiency of your boiler will be significantly impaired, causing further damage in the long run. You can, of course, prevent this by organising a London boiler repair with someone like CW Services Plumbing and Heating.
Whistling noises
Whistling noises can also be an indication of “kettling,” but they can also be caused by air becoming trapped in the water pipes. You can try and release any trapped air in a central heating system by bleeding the radiators. If the air is trapped inside the boiler, however, you will then have to have a London boiler repair carried out.
Gurgling type noises
If you have a gas-fired boiler, gurgling noises can be caused by trapped air. They can indicate a blockage or a build-up of sediment. It could also mean that your condensation pipe has become frozen. This can be cured by applying a hot water bottle, but you should only attempt to do so if you know what you are doing. If you don’t, organise that London boiler repair.
